The Chronic Pain Breakup Method
Virtual Pain Program with Live Coaching Options
Led by Pain Specialist, Alissa Wolfe
A structured, science-backed system for complex and persistent pain that targets the neurologic adaptations amplifying pain signals—so you can reclaim freedom, energy, and confidence.
Before you give up on ever feeling like yourself again...
You're definitely not broken, crazy, or "making it up".
Why Most Pain Treatments Miss the Real Problem
The medical system tells you:
→ "Learn to live with it."
→ "It's all in your head."
→ "Try this pill/injection/surgery/physical therapy" (again... and again)
→ Eventually... "There's nothing more we can do."
Because most care is built around managing pain OR managing stress.
Here's what they never told you:
The pain system can adapt—becoming hypersensitive and amplifying signals regardless of diagnosis or injury status.
This sensitivity exists on a spectrum. It's not a "you-either-have-it-or-you-don't" situation.
That's why traditional physical therapy often stalls or backfires...
And even mind-body approaches oversimplify this as just a 'fight-or-flight' issue (missing what's actually driving those responses).
The Chronic Pain Breakup Method targets those neurologic adaptations directly using evidence-based tools that don’t require cognitive, emotional, or stress-regulating techniques as the main solution.
That doesn't mean those approaches are ineffective—they're simply not the focus here.
Compare the Chronic Pain Breakup Method to other common approaches:
* Note: The approaches shown here can be used together as complementary strategies.
"The list of things on my 'no' list is growing and I'm worried it will only get worse"
Sound familiar?
✅ You plan your life around "good days" and "bad days"
✅ You've become an expert at faking that you're okay
✅ You've spent thousands on treatments that gave you hope... then crushed it
✅ You're exhausted from being told to "just push through it" or "just relax"
✅ You lie awake wondering if this is really your life from now on
I see you. I believe you. And this isn't your fault—or your forever.
What if you could finally reduce pain and restore function by targeting the neurologic adaptations keeping pain signals amplified?
Among participants who complete the program:
Additional Outcomes
- 96.2% experience reduced anxiety and/or depression
- 86% report less fatigue and clearer thinking
- 70.5% improve sleep quality (averaging +1.5 hours per night)
- 100% gain practical knowledge and tools to support ongoing recovery
This is exactly why having a step-by-step plan to normalize overactive pain pathways with evidence-based techniques is crucial—exactly what the Chronic Pain Breakup Method delivers.
The 5-Phase System:
This method directly targets neurologic adaptations that amplify pain signals, one phase at a time:
Finally Understand Neurologic Adaptations Driving Pain
Understand the neurologic drivers amplifying your pain—so you stop guessing, stop chasing the wrong fixes, and finally know what to target.
Set the Foundation for Recovery
Learn to predict and prevent pain flares before they start—and what to do when they do happen. Learn sleep strategies that work within the constraints of chronic pain (not rigid sleep hygiene rules), plus breathing drills to boost recovery capacity (not as a standalone cure).
Expand Activity Tolerance Safely
Break the "push and crash" cycle. Build your activity tolerance so you can actually DO things without being sidelined for days.
Normalize Hypersensitive Pain Pathways
Use specific strategies to reduce nerve sensitivity.
Rebuild Physical Strength Safely
Learn to layer physical stretches and strengthening back in gradually—after addressing the neurologic adaptations first.
Each phase builds on the last, creating a comprehensive approach that addresses all aspects of your pain—not just the symptoms.
See How This Approach Works
What You'll Walk Away With:
Be your own expert with everything you need to maintain your progress and continue improving — without relying on anyone else to tell you what to do.
The Result? Unshakeable confidence in your body and the freedom to move through life without constant worry.
"But I've Tried Everything..."
I know. Most people who find their way here have tried everything... and are scared to hope again.
The issue isn't effort or motivation.
It's that most approaches focus on either symptoms, structure, psychology, or stress (aka. "nervous system regulation")...
While missing the neurologic adaptations that keep pain pathways overactive.
Of course, this approach isn't for everyone.
❌ This is NOT for you if:
- You're expecting a quick fix without effort
- You're unwilling to try something new
- You can't commit to 20 minutes daily
✅ This IS for you if:
- You've had complex/persistent pain for 6+ months despite trying everything
- You're overly cautious, avoiding activities out of fear
- You feel stuck in a cycle of overdoing it and paying for it later, constantly adjusting plans, and putting life on hold
- You need clarity on the mechanisms driving symptoms (not vague reassurance or psychological explanations)
This approach works for complex and persistent pain—regardless of diagnosis, location, or original cause—by targeting the neurologic adaptations that amplify pain signals.

"What If This Doesn't Work for Me?"
I get it. You've been disappointed before.
That's exactly why I don't just take anyone into this program. I only work with those I'm confident I can help.
And that's why I want to talk to you first.
And also.... What if it does work?
Here's what happens when you finally address the hidden factor in complex, persistent pain
“I am literally living a new life after this program. I no longer live in pain. I do not fear what will happen next. I am fully in charge of my life and my body and I have a great understanding.”
- Lisa
"You can't even put into words when you're able to do the thing that you love again. The other day I realized I felt 'normal'. It has been really exciting, feeling like you're finding yourself again."
- Hannah
"I'm more present with my family which was always something that I needed. They deserve my best too. That was the puzzle piece I missed and didn't even know about."
- Katie
Why Trust This Approach?
Hi! I'm Dr. Alissa Wolfe
PAIN SPECIALIST, PT, DPT, OMPT, OCS, TPS, CHC
As a board-certified orthopedic doctor of physical therapy and certified pain specialist, I left the traditional medical system when I realized it was failing people with complex and persistent pain.
After developing several pain programs across the US (including one for the US Army), I created the Chronic Pain Breakup Method to provide what the medical system doesn't:
— A comprehensive, science-backed approach that actually addresses the most overlooked cause of persistent pain.
Most of the women I work with were desperate for structured guidance and support because they were exhausted and overwhelmed from trying to figure it out on their own in isolation.
I've helped hundreds of women with complex pain finally find lasting relief by directly addressing the neurologic adaptations that keep pain pathways overactive.
I'm not here to offer quick fixes or miracle cures, but a systematic approach that actually works when nothing else has.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this work if I have ongoing physical issues (like disc bulges, arthritis, etc.)?
Yes! Even with ongoing physical issues, your pain system can become hypersensitive, amplifying every sensation.
This doesn't mean physical issues don't contribute or that it's “all in your head”—it means it's necessary to address both.
By addressing both, you can experience significant relief even with ongoing physical issues, and you'll tolerate physical treatments better.
Is this just another "mind-over-matter" or "nervous system regulation" approach?
No. While many people find value in cognitive, emotional, or stress-based approaches to pain, that isn’t the focus of this program.
The Chronic Pain Breakup Method does not center on thinking your way out of pain, reframing symptoms, or using emotional processing as the primary driver of change. Instead, it focuses on directly addressing overactive pain pathways through physical, sensory, and movement-based strategies.
For clarity, this program does not teach or rely on approaches such as:
⦿ Meditation or mindfulness practices
⦿ Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)
⦿ Somatic Tracking
⦿ Nervous system regulation
⦿ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
⦿ Vagus nerve—focused techniques
⦿ Journaling or emotional processing exercises
⦿ “Nervous system regulation” as a standalone solution
⦿ Biofeedback
⦿ Desensitization Therapy
⦿ Distraction Therapy
That doesn’t mean these approaches are ineffective or inappropriate for everyone. They simply aren’t the methods used here.
How is this different from physical therapy and other exercise programs?
Traditional physical therapy and exercise programs often focus on strength, flexibility, posture, and/or alignment. While those things can be helpful, they often fall short—or even backfire—when the pain system is hypersensitive.
When your pain system is hypersensitive, it keeps certain muscle groups constantly tense and inhibits others from activating properly. That means typical PT exercises may actually reinforce existing imbalances and may even aggravate your pain.
With this program, by addressing sensitivity first, your body is better prepared to handle exercises without pain flaring up.
Once your overall sensitivity decreases, we can address muscle imbalances, stiffness, and compensatory movement patterns more effectively.
At that point, stretching, strengthening, and functional training can actually work—without causing setbacks. And don't worry, I'll show you how to reintegrate those stretching and strengthening elements into your routine safely.
What methods do you teach, and what does a typical day look like?
Think of the program like building a comprehensive tool chest. Each "drawer" holds a different category of tools, and on any given day, you'll use one tool from each drawer (in the correct order)—typically taking about 20 minutes total.
Here's what we build together:
⦾ Pacing strategies - Learn to consistently find and stay in the “sweet spot” between doing too much and not doing enough (both can backfire), using my signature "push to it, not through it" method, which builds your activity tolerance while normalizing pain pathways.
⦾ Nerve drills - Gentle movement-based drills designed to target specific nerves, adapted to your symptom location and severity. (These aren't "no pain, no gain"—you should feel nothing or feel better - never worse.)
⦾ Laterality training - Simple drills that help strengthen the brain's map of your body without requiring physical movement or triggering symptoms.
⦾ Motor imagery - Techniques that activate the movement pathways, helping reduce sensitivity without triggering symptoms or physical risk.
⦾ Sensory discrimination – Targeted drills that improve how sensory signals are processed, reducing distorted or amplified responses.
⦾ Mirror therapy - Visual techniques that help to rewire maladaptive pain responses through measurable neuroplastic changes.
⦾ Sleep optimization - Practical sleep strategies designed to support sleep within the constraints of chronic pain, rather than relying on rigid rules or perfection.
⦾ A guided framework for understanding symptom patterns, focused on identifying meaningful influences without obsessing, overtracking, or chasing false correlations.
⦾ Breathing drills to strategically increase recovery capacity and enhance the effectiveness of other techniques (not as a standalone cure).
⦾ Flare-up prevention and flare-up management to help you reduce the frequency, duration, and intensity of flares
⦾ Stretching and strengthening, layered back in gradually without suffering or paying for it later, so you can sustainably build strength and range of motion.
Rather than doing long or complicated routines, we strategically layer each strategy together daily, creating a sustainable routine that fits into your life.
Is this program evidence-based?
The Chronic Pain Breakup Method combines the most effective, evidence-based strategies from multiple pain science and rehabilitation frameworks into one structured system.
Through years of clinical work and study, it became clear that individual strategies work best when layered together in the right sequence.
Every strategy taught is grounded in peer-reviewed research.
A full research summary with citations is available for those who want to review the evidence directly.

Will this program work for my specific condition?
Many people develop an overprotective, hypersensitive pain system that amplifies symptoms—regardless of the original injury or diagnosis.
Importantly, unlike diagnostic labels, this isn’t an all-or-nothing, “you-either-have-it-or-you-don’t” situation. Pain pathway sensitivity exists on a spectrum, and people can fall anywhere along it.
Because of that, this program isn’t designed to treat a single diagnosis or label. So rather than chasing individual diagnoses, the focus is on addressing the overactive pain pathways contributing to your symptoms. When those mechanisms are addressed, meaningful improvement is possible across a wide range of conditions.
That being said, the CPBM has helped people with many types of complex and persistent pain conditions, including:
⦾ CRPS
⦾ Degenerative disc disease
⦾ Fibromyalgia
⦾ Stubborn back pain
⦾ Arthritis
⦾ Nerve pain/neuropathy
⦾ Central sensitization
⦾ Disc herniations
⦾ Sciatica
⦾ Small fiber neuropathy
⦾ MS
⦾ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
⦾ Rheumatoid arthritis
⦾ EDS
⦾ Carpal tunnel
⦾ Post-surgical pain
⦾ Joint replacements
⦾ Facial Pain
⦾ Neuralgias
⦾ Migraines
The best way to determine whether this approach is a good fit for you is to book a call so your specific situation can be discussed in detail.
How does the program work (format, timeline, and support options)?
The Chronic Pain Breakup Method is built around two core components: structured modules + live coaching support.
This allows participants to move at a sustainable pace while choosing the level of guidance that fits their needs.
Component 1: The Modules
The program includes 14 comprehensive, pre-recorded video modules that guide you through a structured, step-by-step 5-phase protocol.
⦿ Modules are video-based and can be completed on your own schedule
⦿ A pacing of one module per week is recommended
⦿ Most participants complete the program in 16–20 weeks, allowing time to apply the material between lessons
The modules form the foundation of the program and are designed to build understanding, reduce overwhelm, and support long-term change.
Component 2: Live Coaching & Support
Choose the level of support that serves you best:
Independent Study:
- ⦿ Full access to all program modules
- ⦿ Optional: individual coaching sessions with Alissa can be added on an à-la-carte basis
- ⦿ Designed for those who prefer a self-paced approach
Inner Circle (women only):
- ⦿ Full access to all program modules
- ⦿ Weekly live coaching calls
- ⦿ Direct messaging access (M–F)
- ⦿ Private community group for additional support and connection
Both options use the same core curriculum—the difference is the level of guidance, accountability, and personal interaction.
What is the success rate of this program?
Rather than relying on a single metric, outcomes are tracked across multiple areas that reflect real-world improvements.
Based on participant-reported outcomes:
- 96% reported greater hope for recovery
- 94% experienced meaningful improvements in overall quality of life
- 96.2% reported reduced anxiety and/or depression
- 96.2% improved their functional ability in daily life
- 98.7% experienced a reduction in physical symptoms
- 86% reported less fatigue and clearer thinking
- 70.5% improved sleep quality (averaging +1.5 hours per night)
- 100% gained practical knowledge and tools to support ongoing recovery
Note: These outcomes reflect aggregate participant data and are reviewed and updated annually. Individual experiences may vary based on level of support, engagement, and symptom history.
